Wire rod is a kind of round steel with relatively small diameter, and its commodity form is supplied in coils. The diameter of wire rod is 6, 8, 10, 12 mm, mostly low-carbon steel, which is generally not used as the main reinforcement of reinforced concrete structures, but mostly used for making steel sleeves, and small-diameter “brick reinforcement” used in brick-concrete structures.

Wire rods need to be straightened and cut with a steel bar straightening machine before use, and at the same time oxide scale is removed in the machine, and the strength is improved to some extent during repeated bending and stretching. In a small construction site without straightening machine, it is not advisable to use a hoist to straighten the wire rod, which is easy to produce too much plastic deformation. One end should be hammered with a pulley to control the pulling force.
